Katie C. Wischkaemper, PhD
Dr. Wischkaemper earned her BS in Psychology from Texas A&M University in 2008 and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee in 2016. She completed an APA-approved internship at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN including specialized training in traditional psychotherapy, therapy for individuals who experienced traumatic events, and the impact of chronic and terminal illness on individuals and families. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Tennessee Psychological Clinic, where she provided psychotherapy and psychological and psychoeducational assessment as well as supervision for doctoral level graduate student therapists.
Dr. Wischkaemper started her career in general mental health with the William C. Tallent VA Outpatient Clinic in Knoxville treating veterans and their loved ones. She lead several courses of beginner Mindfulness Groups for veterans, served on the training committee for doctoral level trainees, and ended that chapter of her career exclusively treating veteran couples. During her early career, Dr. Wischkaemper served on the executive board for the American Psychological Association’s Division 43 and the local Appalachian Psychoanalytic Society. She believes in utilizing relational, insight-oriented approaches to psychotherapy, integrating behavioral and cognitive techniques when applicable. Keen attunement, openness toward emotion, and the relationship between the person and therapist is key in moving toward change.
